work stands
for the last couple of years I've been using a lidl work stand and for £30 its served me well but its coming to the end of its useful life now so I'm on the hunt for a new one.
Any one have any recommendations for a decent stand, or even the pro's and con's of the ones that clamp the seat post like the one i already use and the ones where you remove a wheel and sit the bottom bracket in a type of cradle

Park Tools jobbie for me - the PCS9
Very well pried, really good build quality, works perfectly. Used everyday for about 3 years now and never had a problem.
Very recommended.Postby team47b » Sun Jun 28, 2015 11:53 am

Likewise. The thing is built like a tank! Basic but all you'll ever need0 -
This is what you need.....job done.....that is all.

thanks for the replies guys, so all of these are the tripod type with the clamp for clamping the seat post etc does no one use the type where you remove a wheel and sit the bike on top? like the parktool prs20 or the feed back sports sprint stand, is this because they're expensive compared to the others or because they're a pain to use0

I have the Planet X http://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/TOJWSWS/jobsworth-professional-folding-alloy-home-workstand tripod stand.
The biggest benefit of this type of stand is how quick it is to setup - three quick release clamps and the bike is ready to be fettled. They also allow you to fit and adjust the front brake blocks.0 -
The feedback stand got great reviews. A bit pricey, but watch the pro team mechanics at work.

To tell the truth, before I got the Park Tools stand I used to clamp the bike in a turbo trainer and pop it on the big motorbike workbench I have centrally in the garage - allows 360 degree access, stable as, can do all jobs and if you already have a turbo it means no extra outlay. If you have a table you can pop it on then job jobbed - kitchen generally works perfect for this.
The Park Tools workstand (or any, for that fact) is very cool for also hanging bikes off to save floor space. Now I've got it, its perfect.Postby team47b » Sun Jun 28, 2015 11:53 am

For a workbench stand, I've got this Tacx - works really well, especially if you have a carbon frame with an integrated post:

Only shortcoming is if you are working on a bike with fixed, full-length mudguards which can foul the bench unless you loosen the guards off a bit.0 -

I use the Park Tool workshop stand

I find it much more stable and practical than a stand that holds the bike by the seat post especially when dealing with BBs and can access both sides of the bike. Disadvantage is the weight of the Park Tool version but other manufacturers make something similar that weighs less.I ride a bike. Doesn't make me green or a tree hugger. I drive a car too.0
