Thread striped on crank
Pedal came out while cycling has mangled RH crank thread.
Googling has shown you can get them helicoiled:
http://www.recoilshop.net/shop-recoil/bicycle-thread-repair/crankshaft-thread-repair/9-16-20-rh-lh-bicycle-crankshaft-repair-kit.html
But kit is worth more than some old cranks so will probably just buy new ones.
Anyone had there cranks mended using this method at the LBS etc, & how much were they charge/is it a reliable fix?

Most local garages (repair places not petrol stations) should have the kit to put in a helicoil. As it is the RH crank it will be a normal right hand thread insert so should not be that expensive £20 ish all in I recon. Should be as good as new once done. I would use garage/engineering firm in preference to LBS.Rose Xeon CDX 3100, Ultegra Di2 disc (nice weather)
Ribble Gran Fondo, Campagnolo Centaur (winter bike)
Van Raam 'O' Pair
Land Rover (really nasty weather )0 -
I've used Highpath Engineering in the past, and they would be my first port of call. They are set up for this work and looks like they are currently charging £27.50

Depending n how jeffed it is get yourself down to the local tool factor and buy a tap - cost you a fiver.
Whack it in, job jobbed.
If you've mashed it so much it needs to be helicoiled then any engineering place really.Postby team47b » Sun Jun 28, 2015 11:53 am
