I had my bike stolen recently and the insurance covers up to £900, but only supplied from wheelies.co.uk. I'm trying to decide which bike to go for and have narrowed it down to the following. Any thoughts?

Giant Defy 1 2016

Mekk Pinerolo AL SE 0.4 2016

Scott Speedster 20 2016

Before I realised I had to get the bike from this shop, I was looking at these. How do they compare?

    The one that you prefer.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

All running 105 which is no bad thing, maybe you want to check out the warranty's offered on the frames if you are finding it hard to choose.

As the only carbon + 105 equipped bike I can find at this price point, is the Vitus any good? Any Better than the aluminium frames here?

Web forums are good for many things but trying to get a logical selection from a random set of choices rarely works well. For a start, I doubt whether any of us has extensive experience of all the options shown so most of the 'advice' given will be based on a highly subjective view of something not usually relevant (like the fact that someone once rode a Bianchi so will recommend any Italian option). Then, factor in that you haven't really given any clues as to what you want from the bike...and then add in that all the bikes are pretty much the same in terms of quality and that the biggest factor is a good fitting bike, and, and...

So, with all that in mind, pick the red one :)

BTW, most folks typing "pick the one you like" are not taking the mick (well, some might be) as it often comes down to something as simple as that. I am rarely convinced with the concept of test rides either as I don't get how a 15 min spin around the block is going to tell me how a bike will feel over the course of a season. It might tell me which one I really like the look of though...

Pick your favourite out of those which are the right size.
  • Tell (don't ask) the insurance company to send a cheque to cover the cost of travelling to wheelies so you can try them out. look at the colour, kick the tyres. Don't forget to get a bottle cage fitted before you test ride and watch out for flaking paint at the seatpost clamp.

Make the insurance company cash settle and buy a used bike
