MTB map
Hi all,
Just thought I'd mention that there is now an MTB specific map of Europe (including the UK) available at http://mtbmap.cz/
This is based on www.openstreetmap.org data, which is like the wikipedia of online maps.
It highlights paths suitable for mountain biking according to the following scale:
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:mtb:scale
The bad news is that coverage of the UK with the relevant MTB-specific data in the openstreetmap dataset isn't yet that great, but you can add to it. I've found it useful in my local area to tag the paths, and then within a couple of weeks mtbmap.cz is updated, and this makes planning routes much easier when you can see all the MTB trails highlighted on the map.
If you want any help with adding MTB trails to the map, I'm happy to help, but there is lots of info here:
https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Beginners%27_guide
By adding data to the openstreetmap dataset, you'll also see better maps in Strava in the future as Strava uses these maps. For this reason Strava is making it's massive dataset of GPS tracks available for assistance when adding new trails to the map at http://strava.github.io/iD/#background=Bing&map=6.40/-1.850/53.917

What an awful website. Not very user friendly, poorly laid out and doesn't do anything that dozens of other, much better websites don't do already.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

Such as? I'm not aware of any websites with maps that mark whether bridleways are worth riding on.0 -

Yes, it would be, if that's your mindset. Personally I'm quite happy to share where good trails are particularly if they are on Bridleways as there are no access or legality issues.
If the attitude of most MTBers these days is not to help others enjoy the sport, it would be no surprise if participation is dropping while road cycling is going through the roof.0
