Is there anyone here using a Wahoo Kickr Snap on TrainerRoad with success?

Mine seems to be connecting as a Kickr not Kickr Snap so the power is way off.

Anyone know of some PC training software I could use other than TrainerRoad and Zwift(laptop not up to spec) which also isn't reliant on having an iPhone?

Also interested in this as I'm hoping to buy a smart trainer in the next few weeks (under £500) and the Kickr snap was on the list but have read of a lot of issues when used with trainerroad where the kickr is slow to respond to power changes or the resistance of the trainer is much high than the power level it should be at.

Out of curiosity and at the risk of hijacking the thread, what else is on your list? any direct drive trainers at that price?

Are you using it with TrainerRoad or did you have any issues with updating it for FE-C?

There are no direct drive trainers on my list and I'm after a wheel on trainer as I have a mixture of 10 and 11 speed bikes and don't want to have to change the cassette each time.

Other trainers I was considering is:

Tacx Vortex Smart (£250ish) - concerned that it can only replicate gradients up to 7%

Tacx Bushido Smart (£350ish) - seems to be some bad reviews especially when the trainers is being controlled by TR.

Elite Qubo Digital B+ Smart (£230ish) - can't really find any reviews online so not sure what resistance/gradients it can replicate

Bkool Pro (£380ish) - very tempted but again have read of issues when controlled by the likes of TR and poor customer service/after sales. Not sure if built quality is as good as some of the competitors.

Kickr Snap (£500ish but was hoping for post Christmas sale!) - really thought this would be the best option after the success of the direct drive kickr but again have read of issues as noted in earlier post.

Some of issues may well be within TR and not the actual trainer itself but as I use TR this is a main consideration. I may just opt for the Tacx Vortex as I not sure how much of an issue the lower resistance will actually be.

    Any thoughts welcome!
  • I just bought one from Sigma sport for £400 they had an offer on Black Friday £100 off if you spent over £500.
Have only used it on Zwift and it is very good. Tried it with there own app and it kept dropping out, but that may have been my fault for having my Garmin running at the same time and apparently it can only connect to one device at a time, but at the moment impressed with feel and linking with Zwift.

    That was a good price!

Got a tacx vortex from 4thebike.de about a month ago. About £215 shipped, I had to update with the utility to get it to work with zwift. There is now both a iphone and android app . Most of the hills on zwift are not more than 7% and the brake works best when rider and bike weight is less than 75kg. As this was my first turbo I did not want to spend to much as I was worried it would be a waste of money if I found it to boring. I got a turbo tyre for a spare wheel and the noise level is quite low. I am doing about 80 virtual miles a week and using it 4-5 times a week so its keeping me ticking over. Got the tablet holder as well which is useless. After about 2 weeks needed a 18 inch high speed fan, its was like been in a sauna after about 30 mins.
I find the vortex fine but its my only reference point, but for £215 its a pretty safe bet.

My Vortex lasted three weeks till it stopped working, and had to send it back.
