Derailer cable connection and rear brake cable stop?
Hi all
Trying to fix my wife's bike, come across a couple issues after replacing the seized brake and gear cables. Photos below essentially the rear brake seems to have an odd fixing point for the termination of the cable. Used to the hex/bolt clamp that grips the cable when adjustment made to fix in place. This seems to have a different arrangement looks like apiece missing that sits in inset that should do this but can't for the life of me think what this would be? Otherwise thinking a collar screw that works grip the cable but this doesn't seem ideal in case the screw comes loose but maybe a work around?
Second issue is the gearing cable us not fixed to anything at present wondering if anyone can advise from photo how this would work and is a piece is missing? The gears were working badly a few weeks ago!
Sorry but not hugely bike mechanically minded, slowly picking up bits n bobs.

Not sure about the brake cable as it's not too clear from your picture what the problem is. I can see the bolt? with the hole in it that the cable should pass through to clamp it but I'm not sure what else would be needed to effect a secure fixing.
The rear derailleur is an easier spot. You are missing the cable clamping (anchor) bolt and washer. If my eyesight is not playing tricks there appears to be a threaded hole forward of the fixing where the cable stop is located. That hole should have a bolt + washer in it and the gear cable gets fixed behind the washer after tightening the bolt. Shouldn't be too much of a problem to source the right sized bolt and washer.
Not surprised the gears were playing up if the cable anchor bolt was missing.0 -
Aha thought there was something missing, will try and take a better photo of the brake cable and get a bolt and washer for the derailer, thanks!0

As Arlowood says, the brake cable should go through the hole in the black oblong bit just above the bolt which fixes the brake shoe in the picture. The nut on the end should clamp the cable then use the adjuster on the end of the outer sheath to do fine adjustment. If the oblong bit does not clamp the cable properly you may be missing a washer with a square hole to press/clamp against.Rose Xeon CDX 3100, Ultegra Di2 disc (nice weather)
