WW2 is littered with similar 'blue on blue' incidents. No one 'plans' them or wants them, but sh*t happens.
Maybe we should have acquiesced to the Germans (i.e. surrendered) in 1939, as per the wishes of most of the UK government at the time. Thank God for Winston Churchill.
Sometimes intervention is necessary. Sometimes it isn't. Sometimes it's done for the right reasons and is successful. eg French in Mali. Sometimes it's done for the wrong reasons
Yes sounds like fence sitting but each situation has to be judged on its merits. That said Rick's link is worth reading because even to our cynical 21st century eyes that is a horrendous censored up.
