Nukeproof Scalp Pro

After the horrendous failure of a scrap pile that the Commencal turned into, I was left rather disheartened and retreated to actually doing some university work rather than focusing on riding. Over the recent weeks, I started to get more and more annoyed at having 70% of a downhill bike in various places and decided to bite the bullet (again) and get a new frame. After a few weeks searching for something in the right size and the right price, I finally ended up with almost exactly what I intended to buy, 5 months ago. A Nukeproof Scalp, only this time, in Pro trim. I'll spare you any more rambling paragraphs and move straight to the build and photos.
Frame; 2012 Nukeproof Scalp Pro
Shock; 2012 Cane Creek Double Barrel
Fork; 2012 BOS Idylle
Bars; Nukeproof Warhead risers 800x35mm
Stem; Nukeproof Warhead Direct Mount 45x35mm
Grips; Funn Combat
Brakes; Shimano Zee on 203mm rotors
Shifter; Shimano XT I-Spec B
Rear mech; Shimano Zee FR
Crankset; Shimano Zee
Chainring; Superstar I/O 36t
Cassette; Shimano Tiagra 12-28t
Chain; KMC X-10
Bottom Bracket; Race Face something or other
Pedals; DMR V12
Seatpost; Acros (hateful rail clamp)
Saddle; Bontrager something
Seatclamp; Warhead
Rims; Superstar DHX
Hubs; Superstar Tank EVO
Spokes; Sapim Race
Nipples; Brass
Tyres; Maxxis High Rollers/Wet Screams
No idea about the weight, was too imatient to weigh it up before building. The Commie was about 17.5kg and this feels a little lighter, but couldn't say for sure
We were supposed to be heading over to PORC to shred yesterday, but our minibus had been double booked, so we were left twiddling our thumbs. First impressions when there are any.

Very nice. I have had mine for three years now and still love riding it.
I suggest that you should never weight it. If you want to loose 150g off it, just remove the stickers!Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
Mmmm you might be right there. So far, in my fleeting, tarmac based fooling around, the aspect of it I'm most enjoying is how spritely it makes my (very heavy) Pitch feel every time I swap back. Trip to Penshurst rebooked for tomorrow; hopefully I'll actually get a chance to ride it rather than sit ogling it....Current fleet

PORC actually happened today, but much like everything we try to organise, did not go to plan. All was well to start with; suspension is incredibly smooth and composed trough roots and rock gardens etc. and all the other componentry feels perfectly comfortable. Really wish I had left the Wet Screams on as the ground/clay was incredibly wet, making life interesting on HR1s.
Having wiped out on the second run of the day, on the following run, my riding partner had a brutal crash on a medium sized gap resulting in the following;
Further evidence that Generators are made of cheese...
My DHXs are straight as an arrow after about 30 minutes cumulative riding over six months.
That more or less ended the day as it wasn't worth the risk of riding on it and I didn't fancy slowly pushing up laps in the slop with a mildly seized headset which was enabling steering in increments of 10 degrees only. Anyway, obligatory muddy pics;

That rims got loads of life left in it. My rims have several dents like that. As long as the tyres is still on you're fine, it won't get any worse.
Not may DH bikes have rims without a few dents.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
I think the combination of the sound it made upon impact, the location of the dent (exactly adjacent to the valve hole) and being able to see the tyre bead came as a shock to him at the time. I haven't seen it with the tyre off, so I can't comment on it's shape/integrity. It's not like any other component of his bike works properly anyway.
In other news, in preparation for a month away from Kent and not riding the Scalp, I've bought some chainring bolts of a suitable length, but still only have one chainring to share between two bikes. I do wish people would only borrow things short term...Current fleet

looks a nice bike, are the earlier model nukeproof bikes finished with better quality paint?
you must have missed superstars get a narrow wide chain ring for £15 daily December offer.
Uberbike are doing 15% off orders in December still so you could get another one for your other bike.0 -
There isn't paint on the earlier frames, they're anodised. They are much better finished.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

I was tempted by that, but thought it better to save the £15 and attempt to recover the chainring for which I've already paid.
Can't really comment on the longevity of the finish as I only built it up last week, have barely ridden it since and won't get a chance to now until mid January as there's no real point taking it back to Northants.Current fleet
