Hi, I need some advice with something as i am new to this. I had my bike for a year now an Canyon Endurace 6.0 AL 2015 I have just service the headset for the first time and the bearings are knackered. As I didn't known what size the bearing is so I took it to the LBS. As I got there Canyon email the headset as an Tange IS22ae-sct integrated IS41/IS41. I show this to the guy (owner) and he suggested the a Cane Creek 10-sz44 short and the bearing will fit. I put these new bearing on but there's a small gap (roughly 1.5mm to 2mm)between the fork and the head tube. As not sure if its correct so I put the old bearings on and there's no gap. I phone the LBS the guy said it should fit and suggested I bring the bike, fork and my original headset down. The guy(owner) investigate he said there is a gap, and the mechanic came over and said the same. The owner said that's what Cane Creek recommend and the mechanic said its a small gap and there's nothing to worry it be fine.

I'm just not sure if this is correct or not, also not sure if I have got a crown race as I can't see it, and how come if there is no crown race when the original bearing are on it has no gap and the new one has.

All advice would be appreciated.

Sorry couldn't upload photo file to big.

    With the new bearing.

Also this morning got an email from Canyon saying this "The headset is a sealed unit and does come with a crown race."

Thank you Sungod for the link

Sealed or not has nothing to do with crown races.
Some forks have an integrated cone for the bearing, some not , that's the point.
Gap looks a bit wider than necessary, but technical it's acceptable.
  • Any reasons is like this Keezx? Is it the wrong bearings?

If the only thing you changed is the bearing, then the bearing is the reason.....
Your frame is for full integrated and the bearing is for semi integrated.
By coincidence it might fit but still it's not original and apparently slightly wrong....some bearings build a bit higher.
You can likely ride the bike now without problems, bu I wouldn't be satisfied with this on the long term
  • Thanks Keezx, yeah am not really happy with this will probably change to different bearings.

The variation in the size of bearings of the same part number is, for practical purposes, negligible. For our purposes bearings of the same part number are identical and totally interchangeable.

IF they have the same part number, OK.
But where do you read that's the case here?
The gap might be there because the internal taper is different, and you don't want that.
