It's the UK’s time for Bike!
Bike is the reference for cycling fans. As a cycling-only channel, 24 hours a day, Bike has reaped immediate success in its first launch market, Italy, and will now be launching in the UK on December 10th.

I'm intrigued by the promise of "technical commentaries by notorious ex-professional riders". Does this mean we're going to have the likes of Lance, Vino and Riis in the Phil and Paul role discussing doping strategies?0
-
It will be a 1hr show repeated 24 times a day.0

Most likely ony 16 times... don't forget the adverts...
Not enough races to make it worth it... that said, I'd pay to watch the all 1989 or 1998 Tour de France, but I suspect there is very little in digital format out thereleft the forum March 20230 -
Anybody know if you can get this through Virgin?0

There is some good content on the channel.
I particularity enjoyed The Greatest Climbs - Passo di Gavia with Savoldelli and Boglia riding and commentating.
It was interesting to see their power and HR data for the climb.
Anyway, it has made me want to go to Italy and cycle even more now.0 -

That's the programme I have enjoyed most so far, based on the Le grandi salite del Ciclismo series, but with Cassani replaced by Savoldelli. I have set it to series record, helps numb the pain on the turbo I find.
I have not been too impressed with the other content though, Italian Masters I found tedious, and everything repeated multiple times to fill the schedule.
Anyway better the channel is there than not, so I am not complaining (too much )0 -
I'm also warming to Cycling with Filippa.
Not sure why, as I don't understand Italian. It must be the splendid scenery or something.
NB - Good idea to record and watch while on the turbo

I regularly have that series on whilst on the turbo. Suggested to GCN that they do something similar as their 'fun' videos are getting really repetitive. It'd be nice if they moved on from being Top Gear on a bike, but looks like this new channel might have beaten them to the punch.
Will the videos/shows be put on YouTube at all?0 -
Interesting. I find that during the season, Eurosport do a great job of covering nearly every race you could want to see and put them on at decent times (i.e. usually 19:00 - 22:00). However, as with most of their programming it's not exactly creative content, it's always just highlights packages from pro races. It'll be nice to see something a bit different.
To be honest, I'm surprised Sky don't make more of an effort outside of the Tour de France, I think the market is there, it's just a case of whether they want to chase it. They're rebranding the Sky Sports F1 channel to Sky Sports Darts for the winter, surely they can find something better than that?!0 -

There's a bike?Napoleon, don't be jealous that I've been chatting online with babes all day. Besides, we both know that I'm training to be a cage fighter.0 -

Please don't give Sky any ideas about a cycling channel on their sports package, as that will mean more expense for those of us just watching Eurosport as part of a family, or whatever, package

You can find most of the programmes in Italian on YouTube, here is one of the updated Le Grandi Salite series

The only difference with the English version is that it is dubbed over, but most of what is happening is pretty self explanatory
Here is the series with Filippa, on the UK channel they have not even bothered to dub it over or provide subtitles. It is more a tourism series than cycling, a bit like one Clare Balding did a few years back. Although Filippa is of course much more pleasing to the eye.

The Italian version (of which ours is almost a direct copy), had a few live races last season but nowhere near what we already get on Eurosport.
I noticed in Italy they have just launched a HD version of the channel, hopefully ours follows suit soon, the mountain scenery in programmes such as the Greatest Climbs looks so much better in HD.0 -
Without wanting to upset anybody I would not give Murdoch a penny of my money. The sooner he and his business go to the wall the better. That is all. Merry Christmas!0

I've dipped in and out of this channel for about two weeks now and have to say it is disappointing. There is a bit of unintentional comedy value in some of the dubbed French and Italian films but very little has really sparked any interest for me. Much prefer GCN. I notice Sky have the coverage of the TDU this year. I'm sure Eurosport usually have that, hope it's not a sign of things to come and Eurosport still have all the Spring Classics. I have Sky by default since I moved house - no cable service - but it is very poor in every aspect and I would not want to give them any more money than I grudgingly do already.Bianchi ImpulsoBMC Teammachine SLR02 01Trek Domane AL3“When I see an adult on a bicycle, I do not despair for the future of the human race. “ ~H.G.
