What's the goto rear hub for a good wheel build???

what's a generally good quality rear hub amongst the wheel-builder community these days?
I'm looking at building a 27.5 set with Stans Arch wheels, but different builders are offering a huge variety of hubs?
My riding is mostly trails...and mostly leisure...nothing serious...
I realize that DT Swiss 350 is highly rated...but over my budget..
So was hoping for some advice on the cheaper alternatives?
Novatec 772? Superstar Components Switch Ultra Rear Hub or SS Tesla EVO Rear Hub? or Hope Evo II?
Many thanks

What is your budget? Also which size axle and how many holes?0

Hoping to get something decent below £300.
15mm front and 142x12mm rear.
I'm 88kg, so I think 32 is safer than 280 -
£300 for hubs or the complete wheels?
I would go for either Hope pro2 or the best DT Swiss hubs in budget.
Worth noting that you can often buy complete wheels for less than the cost of the parts.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -

Hoping to get full wheelset for £300ish
Where can I find full sets close tony specs?
The ones on wiggle have the 3.30 Stans hubs, and all the US forums like mtbr rate them very poorly0 -

I believe the Superstar hub is a Novatec, with upgraded SKF bearings. The Tesla hub is quite good, and not too loud either.Specialized Roubaix Elite 2015

Most Superstar hubs come from Novatech, there may not be a direct comparison between an SS and a NT hub though.
Some are from other sources, Chin Haur have been mentioned as well.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0 -
From what I can tell the switch evo hubs are re branded novatec d882sb hubs nothing wrong with them alloy cassette bodies which wear no more than most, can be sorted with a new body with a steel plate of just getting a whole steel unit which they sell direct.
Rookie, I think your right on the bearings My superstar hubs had SKF bearings inside. the hubs I got direct from Novatech had unbranded ones inside mix of Japanese and Korean according to the website. Spin fine an easy sizes to change if needed so no worries there.0 -
hope pro 2 evo hubs I would go for but be aware the rear hope pro 2 evo does have the distinctive freewheel noise due to the freehub ratchet mechanism.
when I've been pricing up some wheels for a 65ob build, I did see a set of hope wheels for around 300 on wiggle.0 -
I had switch evo hubs, 3 sets and the freehubs are crap. I cracked four freehub bodies, you can replace them with a steel body but it weighs as much as a cow.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

I would go Hope, easy to service and maintain and can switch to virtually any axle standard. Also if you need any spare parts they keep replacement parts for hubs long past when they stop making themYT Wicked 160 ltd

I went with Hope hubs for the reasons above easy to service and spares available.0

I've got SS wheels and I think they're on Teslas and they're bloody loud! All the gear, no idea and loving the smell of jealousy in the morning.

Depends how much grease an what type you put in, I packed mine with teflon grease when I did a service, much quieter. if id used a thinner grease it would have been louder.0

Same as any hub then.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
If you're getting them built with hope evo 2's, the hope tech enduro wheel set might be worth a look. My 29er set was around £340 I think.'14 Whyte T129s-*DEAD*

Well obviously, except a Chris King hub, nothing can silence those things0 -
So I can stop the 'lollipop stick in the spokes' noise just by using different grease? All the gear, no idea and loving the smell of jealousy in the morning.
