Strava - random kudos

Just a bit curious really. Every now and then I get some quite random kudos on Strava from people I don't know and are not as far as I'm aware friends of friends. Take today for instance, one kudo from a guy in Wales, one from someone in California, one in Indianopolis, and two guys in Portugal (this is less of a surprise as I live in Portugal for half the year and am fairly well known there). Its not like I did an amazing ride only 28 miles at a tad over 14 mph and no KOMs. Is it just me or does this happen to others too?

There are people out there who seem to spend their lives giving kudos and not really riding their bikes in some vain hope that you will give them kudos when they do actually go and ride their bike.
And yes it always seems to be for that pootle down to the shops rather some gnarly epic in the big mountains!
(I am really stingy with my giving of kudos - it really does have to be something properly hard for me to give any even to friends!).0 -
I'm with marcus
I think people that you "cross" may give people kudos too. I suspect the main reason is so that you give them some back? I assume that these people are the same people that post on here complaining that they came 1223rd on their phone but only 1224th on the Edge 1000We're in danger of confusing passion with incompetence

Yeah, there was a bout of kudos harvesting a while ago. A couple of American cyclists seem to be unable to work out which one of them had/was the biggest d!ck and so would go through the various virtual Strava clubs giving out kudos left, right and centre...because then some riders felt compelled to return the compliment on even the most mundane of rides. This meant that the Americans could get something like 400 kudos for a bobbins ride whilst, no doubt, laughing at those who had ticked the thumb.
If you want to avoid that kind of nonsense, just restrict the number of virtual clubs you are part of...or just don't give kudos to those folks you either don't know in some way or think merit it.0 -

I used to get random Kudos from a guy in Brazil, but weirdly only on my morning commute and only on a Thursday.'Hello to Jason Isaacs'0

I accidentally turned on my Garmin before going out for a ride, having already put on my HRM.
I then did my statutory visit to the facility prior to mounting up. Realised my error and stopped the Garmin. As I was still in range of my wifi the "ride" was uploaded in an instant as I automatically hit Save instead of Delete.
Some muppet gave me Kudos for it.
It was legendary though.0 -
Anyone who gives me kudos and I don't know them gets blocked, what a stupid feature to have if you can't restrict who can dole out the doffs.Rule #5 // Harden The Feck Up.
Rule #9 // If you are out riding in bad weather, it means you are a badass. Period.
Rule #12 // The correct number of bikes to own is n+1.
Rule #42 // A bike race shall never be preceded with a swim and/or followed by a run.0 -

Jesus yeah!
Desparate for something, not sure what. He lives about 5 miles from me, I've never met him or interacted yet he gives me kudos for every ride. Maybe a lovely bloke, mind.0 -
Its a bit odd - but who cares. Maybe some do it just to mess with your mind. I like to give ironic kudos sometimes.
(it only works in my mind though)0 -
I get the odd one from people who aren't in my circle. I sometimes wonder if they've stumbled across my profile from other people we both follow.Advocate of disc brakes.0

I've had clubmates give me kudos for a slow pootle home of 1.5miles after a training ride. it actually worries me... definitely a kudos harvester...0

I was explaining Strava and Kudos to my girlfriend and even she made the point it's ridiculous you can just get spammed with random kudos.
Her idea was we only get one out to give for every ride you upload. Makes them a bit more valuable.BikeRadar Communities Manager0 -
People are overthinking this. I get random kudos all the time from quite a few regulars, I just ignore it - try it, its easy!0

Too hung up on it I would say.
I give out kudos to people all the time when they do nice rides, swims, or runs or whatever. I'm generous in my praise. Does it matter? Personally I couldn't give a shit whether anyone gives me kudos or returns kudos.BASI Nordic Ski Instructor
