When cycling do any of you guys ever get numbness in your feet. Not due to cold. When on turbo or outside my big toe goes numb. Must be the shoes right? I'm just not sure if different shoes will be any different. Current ones are Louis Garneau from about 3 years ago c60 quid from Evans

i had this issue found it was a set up issue with bike position and cleats,

had a bike fit done along with changing to speed plays.

also found through bike fit i needed more arch support due to arch collapsing not helping the numbness.

Have you had a bike fit done?

It's because you clinch your toes while riding

Yeah quite a lot, better than it used to be...having shoes loser helps.
  • I've found that with road shoes, if I do them up so they feel "right" before I start the ride, my feet are aching badly after about 20 miles or so. If I do them up so that they feel really loose when walking to the bike to start the ride, once I'm on and riding I don't notice the looseness at all, and I don't get aching feet.

Shoes that you can easily adjust would be good (ratchet or Boa).
I generally just put them on, then tighten soon after settling into ride, then perhaps loosen a bit if need be on a long ride.

OP, so have you had this issue for 3 years (as you said shoes were 3 years old)?
I found footbeds worked wonders. I got North Wave ones with 3 different heel/arch inserts.

Go through the process of making sure the cleats are setup properly before throwing money at the problem.

What he said! I have a pair of Sidi wire Vernice and they were a bugger for making my feet numb, right one especially! Turns out I was fitting them way to tight, bit of trial and error when tightening them and have them spot on, no numbness even on the longest of rides.
