Erm, I mean disk brakes when wet.
Any advice on how to lessen this? Any particular kind of pad better than others for not squealing/howling?

First step would be to make sure they're set up correctly...0

I asked the bike shop to check all that for me and they said they did. I'm a complete noob and didn't want the hassle of doing it myself.
I've noticed this morning that the back disc is rubbing ever so slightly in one small spot. I was carrying my bike down some steps yesterday and slipped down the last 3. It looks like the rack has took the brunt of the damage and the disc is fairly tucked in so can't see how it could have got knocked.0 -
They should only really squeal in heavy rain, the rest of the time they should be fine. What maje of brakes are they ?0

I wouldn't say the rain last night was heavy, well not for Aberdeen anyway. It had been heavy at one point though as there were some rather large puddles. Even after applying the brakes to slow down and stop, when I pulled away and had to stop at the next traffic light they howled just as bad again and they could barely have even got wet in the short distances I was travelling.0 -
Take the pads out and rough them up a bit on a concrete floor, add a small dot of copper slip on the back of the pad, re fit and bed them in again.Advocate of disc brakes.0

Thanks, I'll give that a go.0
