2007 MTB frame too narrow for 10 speed?

It's a GT Avalanche 2.0 2007 (originally sold as a 3 x eight)

I want to run a 1 x 10 but I'm not sure if the frame will take a 26 inch wheel with a 10 speed hub and cassette.

Any ideas?

10 speed freehubs are the same size as 8 and 9 speed. You could use the same wheel just change the cassette (along with shifter, mech, chain etc). Shouldn't be an issue.
