Does anyone have any views on this frameset? Or ride one?
My wife has offered to buy me that - or something like it - for Christmas. My intention for it would be to use it as a winter and turbo training bike. Probably built up using Tiagra 4700.
Obviously as a turbo bike the quality of the frame doesn't really matter, but for a winter bike would it be decent? Only issue is it doesn't have mudguard mounts but I guess I can get the clip on ones.
Unless anyone has alternatives for a similar price?
PS For comparison my 'summer' bike is a Scott CR1 which I've had for a few years and ridden through the winter but would rather not have to do that any more!
PPS. I can't buy a full bike mostly because that would trigger the wife alarm. I would have to get the frame and assemble the rest from 'spares'.

The obligatory Ribble Winter or Dolan Prefisino would be a better buy for winter training due to fixed guard mounts.
But your best bet would be to get something will similar geometry to your Scott CR1 so you can have them setup the same.0 -

I did look at the Ribble, but given it says it only has clearance for 23mm tyres - that's an issue. Since I run 25mm normally I don't want to have to go narrower for winter! But your best bet would be to get something will similar geometry to your Scott CR1 so you can have them setup the same.
Yes, being 5'6" I often get fit issues so them being set up identically is important.0 -
Resign your CR1 to winter duties, and get the RT-90 for summer, it would be nicer to get a sparkling new summer bike surely0

I have the Dolan (It's identical to the Ribble) and have managed to fit full SKS guards with 25mm Vittoria Rubino Pro Techs, without having to fudge it, although it is tight.
What about the Kinesis Racelight 4S?0 -

All you have to with the Ribble to fit 25c tyres is modify the rear brake stay mount. Why Ribble don't do this from the factory I have no idea
I tried the Ribble but couldn't get along with it as it was too different to my summer bike geometry wise, managed to get an older version of my summer bike second hand and its absolutely ideal for winter training. Probably get used for crits next year as well to save writing off my best bike.0 -
