Frame choice £350

Greetings all,
Currently in the market for a frame and been having a look on pink and the bay.
Budget is £350 and my local trails I would say a full sus is over kill. But looking to do some bike parks etc next year.
Looking to build on the cheap using pre owned parts and have a good setup. Believe I will get a better setup than a mid range new HT.
Would you go the HT route with some Rebas and XT wheelset on a 2006 Stumpjumper all I could get for £350.
Or blow the lot on a 2011 Camber frame and shock.
So far I have limited the search to 26" as some bargains are to be had. Or should I go the 650b route, build would take longer due to funds.

just built up a dartmoor hornet frame that cost 200 euros from hibike0

Well the stumpy went. So looking at the Camber, price seems to be reduced.
Have a build in mind, any things to look for with a camber? And any powder coating info? Specifically about matte or stealth black.
Hornet looks good, but too tank like for what I am wanting.0 -
I have a Whyte 901 frame, sektor gold forks, headset, stem, seatpost and clamp for sale for £350 if that's any use? Size M 650b wheels0

What year? It is a very tempting offer.
I have had only Ht's and was looking to build one on the cheap, or go for a FS on 26" due to the bargains.
Think the fork is not what I am looking for if I am honest, wanting a Reba or higher spec.
Trying to price things up atm and the camber that I am seeing looks like a bargain. Plus it will give me my first full sus.0 -

define tank like? Its not a XC, and you don't want one of those if you are going to a bike park.
What shock comes on the camber? its geo is pretty dated though

Don't want to post the link incase someone get's there before me.
I am guessing it is the standard shock as the only description is specialized/fox shock.
That does look very sweet built up. 90% of my time will be on local trails that are as best as I can describe XC and the rest I want to do bike parks.0 -
Guess I am looking for an XC frame that can take the occasional blasting at a bike park.
Spec wise I am wanting to build 1x10 and 120 travel. More than this is overkill.0 -
It's 2014, pics on pinkbike: http://www.pinkbike.com/buysell/1889978/
If I can sell forks I'd do frame only for £200, I've had an email from someone else possibly interested in both though and would prefer to sell all at once.
Re. Xc and a bit more usage, Even if I wasn't selling I'd say a Whyte 90-something sounds like what you are after.0 -

If I am being honest I would say it is not for me.
I am too undecided at this moment if I should get a HT or a FS.
Leaning slightly towards a FS atm and 26" due to the prices.
That being said, it looks good and tempting. But I am also considering a Clockwork 650b 120 at roughly the same price.0 -

The Camber will be useless at bike parks. The geometry is a bit steep and the rear suspension doesn't cope too well with bike park riding.
The Giant Trance would be much better. Solid frame, great rear suspension, cheap enough for a pre 2014 model and with a 140mm fork up front it will do everything you want.
Or another good option would be a Specialized Stumpjumper FSR, great frame with nice geometry.
You can also get a Nukeproof Mega TR for £350 if your patient. Surprisingly good as an xc bike and it will take some stick at the bike park as well.
It does also depend what you mean by bike parks. Bikepark Wales has some pretty tame trails. The blue trails would be better on a hardtail. If your thinking of alpine bikeparks then xc bikes will be a nightmare when your riding trails which are full of braking bumps and big rocks. I have even seen 15 foot gap jumps on blue trails in the alps!Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
Looking for a M or L depending in manufacturer.
The Stumpjumper FSR is the one I would like but even 2009 go for silly money still. Keep trying to be patient and find one in good condition.
So would I be best to avoid the camber.
Certainly not going to be doing any alps, not riding anyway.
Had a ride on a trance before and didn't get on with it too well.0 -
my ghost frame is not doing anything. 140mm/db inline/works componets -1.5 headset0

Your best bet is to set up a search on ebay, get the criteria right so you only rule out frames you definitely don't want but keep it generous enough to catch badly worded ones you do, this is the time of year to buy frames as the values drop by about 15-20% around Christmas.
Don't rule out frames that aren't 'sexy' buy one that deso the job.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0 -

Had a look at that one, looks abit hot wheels, though it could be powder coated.0 -

Could this be what I am looking for, can't tell if it is dented or paint rubbed off from the chain.0 -

That's not a 140mm frame.
Looks like some nasty chain suck marks, a possible sign of neglect as it likely caused by running worn chain and chainrings.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
How can you tell it's not a 140mm frame with sounding daft?
Second choice?

frame is 120 but came with a 140 fork. The shock stroke looks far too short for 140mm travel (infact comes with a 184x44/7.25"x1.75" shock)
I'd take £250 plus postage for my frame and shock.

Not sure if it's quite what you want but Merlin have got Transition TransAm frames for £350 at the moment. Bargain.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

its also only in small which is no good for the OP0 -
POAH the Ghost does look rather nice with that shock. And pricing seems bang on. Plus the color is correct for the theme I want.
But the 09 Stumpjumper FSRs are just s** on wheels, I know form should lead beauty. I'm going to give it another month of looking and if nothing comes along I think I will be sending you a PM.
Think I am going to go the FS route unless I get a bargain HT stumpjumper.
As I have never owned a FS before do I really need a 140 travel? I don't know? Most of the time will be XC riding, but I would like to do some bikepark wales etc next year. And I want to do the build on 26" just because of the crazy deals and budget, plus I don't think anything is wrong with 26".
Would love to show you some pics etc of the planned build I have, but I don't want to ruin the surprise.0
