Velothon Wales 2016

I did it last year and half wanted to go back this year, so went through and got to the end of the registration process, but just don't think I can click 'PAY'.
Just feels too money grabbing.

£65 for only 140k, then asked if you would (be mug enough to) pay £10 to have pack sent in post (should it not be an option at registration, rather than just a question? And why does it cost £10? Its as if they are just asking for as much as they feel they can get away with!), then over £4 admin fee. WTF is that for?. Why not just have it in the cost of entry if its compulsory?

All this to ride around wales and possibly be attacked by angry locals!

I am far from against a closed road sportive, and its not even just the high cost that has put me off.
Its more the way its done and how the organisers come across in the wordings used.

Think I would rather put the £80 and additional costs towards a RideLondon charity place and spend money on London hotels and eating out etc.

"Possibly be attacked by angry locals"?
What a very silly, and offensive comment.

Sorry if I have offended you Gethinceri.
Did not mean to upset decent, law abiding residents, or even ones unhappy (angry) about the event.
It was just the angry ones that actually took action (attacked) this year, and may do again (or worse) next year.

My post was a rant at the organisers because I feel they are taking the pi55 a bit.
I only really referenced the incidents this year due to any possible shortcomings in the event organisers planning of the event, and how that may have upset people enough to put tacks down, spray paint threatening warnings etc.etc.

Thanks for the clarification, I agree.
Last year was a shambles in terms of communication and this year is pricey in comparison, I've entered for 2016 along with 50 club mates but it'll need to be worth the money to encourage me to do it in 2017.
We've got some great cycling options down here, it's the closed-road mass entry event that makes it attractive, there are many better 140 km rides in the Valleys & Beacons.

I got a 10% off discount code and a couple of mates are doing it, so signed up now.
Still feeling they are money grabbing b'stards though.

Bit of a scam after you pay.
Your main details are displayed, with a box asking you to confirm your email address.
If you do you are submitting to a trial (with payment taken after free trial period) of some discount scheme

IMO It seems to be a malicious ploy to trick people into signing up.

Moan over, lets hope its a good day out on the bike

  • It was a great day out last year, I'll say that. However I had a free entry and it does seem like they are taking the pi** there with those prices. It's a decent loop that I could ride often living near Cardiff. Last year I cramped up on the Tumble after the ridiculous pace 35.5kph we kept for the first 60 kilometres. My mate was on fire that day and dropped us all one by one that day haha !! Will be holding out for a free entry again.
  • I have booked for this but can't go anymore. If anybody is interested in going please do a name change with me on my ticket, otherwise I lose the full £59 entry fee

    Reply or PM me, thanks!

Too early to say (I'm hoping).

Was a really good fun ride last year.

Highly unlikely to be anything other than, at least damp, and quite windy. Big low pressure passing through on Saturday so hope it blows through

Just think of the pace as far as Newport with a 20mph tailwind, nice big groups and no traffic.

(And then think about the hay bales collecting people at the sharp bends in Blaenavon if it's wet.)

I'm trying to decide which bike. It won't be the Six.

So, either my PX X1 with 28c tyres on.

Or, if it's really wet, my flat bar Bivio with guards and 28c tyres on.

Or I might just leave the 37c tyres on and see how many I can scalp

After entries close today. I'm assuming that the event isn't sold out if they are still waiting for last minute entries...

So no one has them yet then?

Interesting that its not sold out.
I wonder how undersold it is.

I think they might cancel and do a runner with the cash 8)

7.48 for me, or it would be had my sciatica not flared up last week making walking uncomfortable, sitting agony and pedalling a total no-go.

    £60 wasted.

Don't follow bender his supersix goes round in circles

Should be some of my more mental club members there, Pewsey Velo all black kit with tricolour stripe *toptip* well worth grabbing a wheel, I'll be staying here enjoying hopefully more leisurely club rides this weekend.

    Enjoy!
