Do British Cycling do anything for mountain biking?

Do British Cycling do anything for our sport? They don't support British xc or downhill racers, even up to the point of stopping young British downhill riders qualifying for UCI events.
Their social media and news emails rarely even acknowledge the existence of mountain biking.
I can't think of a single positive thing they have done for the sport. Enduro racing actually seems to benefit from not being affiliated with BC.
It seems that membership and race licence fees from mountain bikers just goes to road, track and CX events.

so why do you need to be a member to race certain events then?0

If you need a race licence then you have to have silver membership. If you plan to race national xc or DH then you have to earn points to qualify so need a licence for that as well.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

so they make rules, take your money but don't invest back into the discipline?0

As far as I can see, thats exactly the case. The don't support British mountain bike racers at international level and now they are effectively stopping British racers getting in to international DH racing unless they can go and race a national series in another country to get UCI points.
There's not a single mountain biking representative in the BC management which I think says a lot.
Take a look at their Facebook page, the last mention of mountain biking was a post about Rachel Atherton winning the world champs, thats a long time ago now.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -

They're a bunch of useless wankers, essentially.
That's the conclusion I have come to. Unless you're in to road, track or Cyclo-cross.
I don't understand why they give so much more support to Cyclo-cross, only about twelve people do it.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -

Spot on. They're hideously short sighted, so they'll only invest in riders in with a podium shot, but we won't be sending any riders at all to the Olympics if we don't get qualifying points, which they seem to overlook. They are utterly useless.0 -
Did Britain even send any XC racers to the world champs this year?Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

Not at the elite male level. We are perilously close to having no riders in the olympics, I think the top 23 countries in the world based on UCI ranking can send riders (number reducing with lower ranking). GB is (or was) 22nd. I didnt fully understand the details but its basically a massive clusterfvck because if we'd even bothered sending people to events we'd have had enough points.I don't understand why they give so much more support to Cyclo-cross, only about twelve people do it
Actually cross is massive, my first season racing cross but starting fields in the welsh league are 150+ for the senior/vet/women race. Loads of youngsters doing it too. I understand other leagues are also pretty busy.
EDIT:
Olympic qualification and places details, it is top 23 countries:

And we aren't 22nd, we are 23rd :?

That article is spot on. British Cycling just doesn't understand mountain biking. They can deal with road which is purely about fitness and strategies. There are other factors in mountain biking which they just don't seem to understand.
Maybe if there were mountain bikers represented in BC management then this wouldn't be the case.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
I didn't follow it closely but I know there was up roar in the BMX community as BC decided to change the rules for them when it came to racing.0
