These all seem to be pretty darn expensive, almost the price of new chainset! What chainrings are available that are good value for money?
46T, 130mm BCD, single speed, 3/32
Should I go for aluminum or stainless steel?

Surly do a 44T that would suite, comes in at about £40.
For my commuter I used a Stronglight one piece crankset with chainring, at £30 it is cheaper than many chainrings! 490g all in plus 210-300g for a ST BB.

Stronglight from Spa - http://www.spacycles.co.uk/products.php?plid=m2b0s149p394 - £14 do you?
I don't know how much difference it makes on SS, but on fixed, there's nothing nicer than a super-round, high quality chainring! I never believed there was much difference until I used a good chainring (Sugino Zen) and sprocket. Smooth and worth every penny.0
