Telling you that your rear derailleur can handle at the most a 31 tooth sprocket on the cassette. Also that the difference between the 2 front rings can't be more than 16 (which is what you currently have).0 -
Not quite - the total capacity is the range in the number of teeth over which the rear mech needs to operate
e.g. for your compact chainset the range is 50-34=16 - this then needs to be added to the range of your cassette to arrive at total capacity.
If you have a 12-25 this would be 13 giving a total of 16+13=29. This would fall within the 31 of your mech and you'd be OK. If you have an 11-28 cassette then your total capacity would be 16+17=33 and this may or may not work as it exceeds 31 - you might be OK but might not depending on factors like chainstay length and B-screw adjustment.
