looking to buy a decent bike for Christmas but not much knowledge on bikes . I have had alook and come up with these two bikes . I use the bike for general use and easy going off road use.

that 580 rockrider seems to have identical spec to the old 26" 560 that they were selling off cheap.

Its a bit tricky to justify the cost just for "modern" wheels.
but the difference in ride between to two you are considering is quite significant. The rockrider is definitely an XC focused bike, while the boardman more trail focused.0 -

Its all a bit open to defintion drift.
In its broadest sense an XC bike is better for getting from a-b at a reasonable pace whilst a trail bike better for what some may call,'' technical sections''personally I think the difference is pretty negligible in the real word and of course most people want to do both, so you pays your money and makes your choice0
