I've just pointed a friend in the direction of this as a first road bike....

Looks amazing value at £325 and bizarrely is cheaper than the lower specced Revenio 1... If anyone is in the market for a first bike or a cheap winter trainer it could be worth a look. Plenty of sizes left in stock.....

Looks to be good VFM so if his budget is limited to around the £300 mark then I don't think you'll beat the spec for that money. Just be aware that if he is looking at it as a dedicated winter bike then it doesn't have mudguard mounts so he will be stuck with Cruds or the like.

Best alternative around that budget could be the BTwin Triban 520

Similar spec and well regarded as an entry level road bike.

Its just as a first road bike he wants it for rather than a winter bike (he has actually bought the raleigh now). I only mentioned winter trainer as it seems such good value that it could be an alternative ride for someone who doesn't want to get their "best" bike covered in winter crap rather than as a specific mudguarded winter bike.

Spec looks similar to the triban but this is even cheaper. I ran sora on my winter bike last year and it never missed a beat, in fact its only not on there now as I stole the shifters to build my cross bike and was gifted a tiagra 10spd groupset from a mate who had his bike written off in a crash. It just seems a hell of a lot of bike for the money so I shared it on here.

A bit heavier, a lot more expensive, and a triple.

Think I would get the Raleigh and some Raceblade longs (cruds don't fit 25mm tyres anyway do they?) or (if i were going to increase budget by loads of money) find another 50% off sale bike rather than buy a full price Triban.

CAAD 8 Tiagra is only £67 more than the Triban (at Evans after Quidco cashtback).
Why would anyone want a lower spec'd Triban over a higher spec'd Cannondale?

Well done on the tip off ravey. I am sure some people will go for one of those.
Did your mate use Quidco too?
