Hey all Im building up a P-X disc frameset up and need these adapters for the callipers. Can someone tell me what they are? The calliper needs to sit about 5-10mm away from the frame and the adapter used in the pic looks exactly what I need. Any Ive seen say they are for 180mm or 203mm discs. I want to run 160mm discs

Would these suit (say 180mm but look like straight through risers?

Im trial fitting BB5 callipers but plan to swap to TRP Spyres later but imagine the mounts will be the same?

Thanks all.

  • Hard to be sure but, think it's this:

If you already have the BB5's it's likely that what they came with will work. 160mm rear is, essentially, standard on road disc or CX disc. So you only need something to convert down (to 140 for example, but that mostly only happen s on front forks) or up to 180mm.

If you get the Spyres now they will have the correct adapter included. Or should have.

160mm adaptors aren't so common as most frames/forks have mounts for 160mm discs so you don't have to "adapt" anything; just bolt the calipers straight on. The only exceptions are if you have different mount standards and need an IS to Post Mount adaptor, or a frame/fork intended for 140mm discs.

What frame and fork do you have?

It's meant to have 160mm discs Paul :) My RTD80 has these, I'd bet the 90 is the same.

I'm running TRP Spyres on my Planet X London road which has identical post mounts to the RT90? shown in the image above.

I swapped the supplied Avid BB 7's for the Spyres without the need for any adaptors - just bolted the Spyres straight onto the front and rear mounting bosses. I'm running 160mm discs front and rear BTW.

If you but the Spyres they will come with adaptors (at least mine did) but these are to convert IS frame mounts (where the mounting bosses lie parallel to the plane of the wheel) to post mounts (where the bosses are at right angles to the plane of the wheel)

How do you rate the spyres vs the BB7? I'm guessing you have those adapters already from the bb7s and kept them for the spyres?

  • Converting 140 to take 160 disc rotor is the same as converting 160 to take 180 disc rotor, so the 180 converter is the one you want, provided you need one.

You do need one if your frame is a road frame designed to take a 140 mm rotor and you want to fit a 160 mm one. If you have a CX rame, most likely you don't need one

being a full road frame I think both mounts are geared for 140mm. I have some sh!tty hybrid wheels with 160mm discs I was using to mock up with the BB5 callipers I have lying about. They sit between 5-10mm ish off the mounts (one end more than the other). So think the adapters Chris posted would be perfect :)
