, I can't go riding in them!
.
Its totally beyond me why you can use them for MTBing ! what exactly is wrong with them for this purpose ?
Can or can't?
They don't match. It would be like using a helmet with no visor for MTB.
Yea sorry CAN NOT
He said is was gloves and jacket , no mention of a helmet ?0 -

Which part of "It would be like..." is confusing you?All the gear, no idea and loving the smell of jealousy in the morning.

Its because it makes no sense as a comparison ! A helmet with visor has a very specific job to do, A jacket just sits there and keeps rain off,/ warm in. Unless they have different rain whilst MTBing its not really applicable ?0 -

Hang on, I thought this was in the mountain biking section where no-one really cares what you're wearing?
I could understand a roadie having this problem over his missus buying him a team sky kit that doesn't match the colour of his tyres or some sh1t like that but we're mountain bikers and everything we wear ends up covered in mud so colours and labels don't matter.0 -

That's what I thought When I came here. But NO, it seems looking ''rad'' is at least as important as the bike0 -
Why do you need a visor when you're riding in the shade of trees? All the gear, no idea and loving the smell of jealousy in the morning.

WGAS? This entire thread embodies how pathetic this forum can be. It is basically a school playground, without the intellect. :?0 -

Meh, there's loads of it though, I just meant your comment typifies it, joke or not. Just a bit sad that this was an entertaining forum in years gone by, now after 2 days the only thread I had a vague interest in posting in is full of juvenile 'humour'. Guess it's why traffic has fallen off a cliff.0

Wear it, who gives a monkeys what anyone else thinks.
I have a cheapy Aldi windproof roadie style jacket with the pockets in the back and it has to be one of the best bits of kit I have ever bought. So good in fact that I recently got the winterised version as well, windproof all over instead of just the front and brushed fleece style inner. Keeps most of the mud and weather out (if its not peeing it down), warm and has reflective strips so handy on the road. (The blue one)
I also wear some non mtb gear mountain warehouse breathable tshirts as well, I hope the walkers (stop sniggering at the back) don't get offended0 -

Sorry my jokes are not funny enough. Perhaps I should have put one of these on the end of it.
I'm with you. I've posted a few times lately at how negative the mountain bike crowd seem to be. Yes, it seems to be getting worse. And not just here. Go look at any of the comments section on Pinkbike. Eight times out of ten it's relentless negativity all the way through. I guess mountain bikers are just too cool for their own good. Odd, because they're all nice as pie when you meet them out on the trails. All the gear, no idea and loving the smell of jealousy in the morning.

Just wear it, I go mountain biking in roadie kit all the time, it's comfortable, does the job and I don't give a damn whehter I look cool or not. Only had comments a couple of times from some fat f***ers that I left for dead anyway. Even went in my skinsuit once as it was the only clean kit I had around at the time, wouldn't recommend that though, it didn't have pockets so I stuffed everything down my front and back anyway. Had issues with a CO2 cartridge that kept making its way to a rather personal location...0

As others have said, just wear it. On the subject of walking, I got a 100% merino t shirt in Aldi a while back for £5.99 said it was for hiking use. It's brilliant. Doesn't look like cycling gear, obviously as it isn't. It's just a normal t shirt that works when you exert yourself a bit.0 -
Buy a Road bike?
It's the only sensible solution.0 -
I wear a Motocross top for cycling, mega comfy, tough, well ventilated and dries quick if it gets wet, in fact I think it's better at the job than any cycling specific gear, best of all I got it brand new at a charity shop for £4.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0

Troy Lee motocross and mtb kit is almost the same, just cut a little different to suit the more bulky armour.
The worst thing about motocross kit is some of it is absolutely hideous looking.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -

Everything by Troy Lee is absolutely hideous looking. I think their design department is staffed by blind people. Which is a shame as all their kit seems to score really well in tests. All the gear, no idea and loving the smell of jealousy in the morning.

Wow! Ive been away for a while and return to find I almost started a virtual riot!
As it happens, I've been wearing it on the trails (along with the roadie thermal bib tights I usually wear under shorts this time of year) My main concern was ruining such a lovely piece of kit but that's not happened yet. The weather isn't really cold enough yet so I've not worn it as much as I'd expected but I'm looking forward to some colder weather soon.
Anyway, my original post was half tongue in cheek in the hope that others would post up things they've been bought as gifts that were either not what they were expecting or were completely unwanted.0 -

Nothing comes to mind... Though with Christmas incoming and the fact my Amazon wish list was all bike related I can foresee many a cheap bike lock or pathetically useless lights being thrown in on top of what I actually wanted.
Glad to see you're getting good use out of your gift... Not sure this will be the case with such 'thoughtful' extras0 -
How nice your wife and mom in law, maybe you can put your stuff in some website to trade whatever you don't want to keep with other people. :P0

Im regularly given things I don't want and have Little use for. If asked I request, dependent on how much I anticipate them spending, either tools or socks, neither of which you can own to many of
My bumper unwanted present time was my first wedding, were we split the present list in half. She selected kitchen bedroom and bathroom items, I selected tools, A trolley jack, axel stands, socket set, circular saw etc
When we open the presents in great excitement, we were over whelmed with number of dinner services bedding and woks we received, but not one single tool was presented. Possible coz a women had been put in charge of buying the present ?0 -
