Are all modern mavic wheels 9 10 and 11 speed compatible?

Hi all,

I am looking at buying some ksyrium elites for my new BMC SLR02. Am I wrong in thinking that modern mavic wheels have a free hub that is 9 10 and 11 speed compatible? I had read that they started using spacers on the free hub a while back now.

If this isn't the case, how easy is it to change the 9 speed free hub on mavic wheels so that you can put a 10/11 speed cassette on the wheel?
