Giant Reign - which size ? M, L ?

Hi, i'm thinking about buying Reign in next few days. I'm 181cm and my leg is about 85cm.
i'm struggling now between ordering Medium or Large frame.
Medium (with reach=445) is longer than any of my previous frames (last was Spec Enduro Evo Medium reach=430) so it's ok.
Large could be even more stable, however i was riding Mach5.7 once, with a TT=615) and was totally bad (too long) on steep descends (i couldn't put my butt behind a saddle, but maybe it was because of strange STa=71). Reign Large has TT=620, so it's longer, but STa=73 - so just a little steeper (saddle moved about 3cm forward).
What do you think? What sizes do you have ? Does a large one block you on a very steep descends ? (very slow, technical, not ones with just bombing down Smile )
I know it would be best to test bikes, but i don't have such option (especially you need few hours on a gnarly tracks to test it correctly) and i need a bike for a next week enduro event.

Don't rush in to it just because you have a race. You don't want to rush in to it and make the wrong choice.
It's well worth getting a demo. Giant do a week long test ride so why not do that and race the demo bike? Then you can be absolutely certain before you buy. Just don't tell them you're racing!Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
anyway, i'll 'rush', i need a bike to ride
that's why i'm trying to gather as many info as i can0 -
Well why not get a demo bike for the race?

Personally I would rather miss a race I have entered than rush in to spending a couple grand on a bike which I'm not 100% sure is the right size. There's always more races and there aren't any good ones this time of year anyway.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -

Yeah buying a bike that's the wrong size is presumably going to make the race a flop anyway so either demo and race the demo or don't do the race and wait to make sure you get the right size. Unless you like losing a stack of cash in which case buy away and hope for the best.Closet jockey wheel pimp whore.0 -
I totally agree with what has been written here, you really just need to test it. I am looking at getting a Trance very soon as well, so on Friday I was at a Giant Testcenter with a willing friend to test the M and the L, switching very often. Turns out I will go with the M, L just didn't seem comfortable and controllable enough. I am 172cm with a 83cm inseam, but I will most likely grow to be about 180cm in the next year, but that will mostly be it for growing.-Cube Acid 29" 2013

It is unlikely OP will be able to book one in time for the race. I had to wait a good few weeks to get my test bikes from Giant.0

I got a Reign in three days back in the spring.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
i visited giant store today, seated on M and L (however they don't have demo bikes at the moment )
When i sat, Large was ok, but it had quite short handlebar - i think it was about 760mm (it was an employee's bike), so it behaved like a shorter bike.
and then i though, considering a little longer CS=434mm and Reach=458mm, it would be hard to make a slow drop or even do a bunny hop. (with a CS short as 420 and steep STa i would surely go for a reach 450-460, but not in this case)
I'm 5'11'' (181cm), my inseam leg is about 33-34'' (85cm)0 -

You're over thinking things. Forget the numbers and try a proper ride. There's no difficulty in getting the front wheel up or bunny hopping the large Reign. My mate was doing street trials on his recently, even flipping it in the skate park.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
as i explained, no demo bikes in my local store (bristol), ordered M, if in mid season i see that something is missing, i can always change a frame.
and Reign Large with wheelbase=1217mm would be longer than my current quite long DH rig (NS Bikes Fuzz, WhB=1216mm) !!!
tracks are sometimes quite narrow and winding here (Wales, Quantock Hills etc.), even some DH tracks are too twisted for my DH rig.0 -

You're going to grow 8cm in height in ONE year?!0 -

That's the areas I ride. There's nothing on the Quantocks you couldn't get down on a DH bike. The DH trails at Triscombe are probably the tightest and twistiest and all are better with a long, stable bike.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
it's not that i couldn't ride Triscombe on a DH (however it's quite long and low DH), but in few places my DH bike was just not nimble enough.
I did Welsh Enduro Series - Dyfi Forest, this weekend, bike worked great !
and i thing i wouldn't want to ride much longer one on muddy twisty tracks around trees.0
