Crank arm replacement?

Hi,
I am a beginner so please be nice haha. I purchased a new Merida Mountain Bike 7 days ago and it was only my 2nd time riding the bike. The right hand side pedal fell off and the thread out of the crank arm was stripped. I took it back to the place of purchase and they replaced the crank arm and pedals with shimano ones. I've attached a photo of what I am not sure if it's right or not but are the ones they have put on ok or should they be different? It just seems that alot of dirt and dust is going to get in where it might not be desirable for it... Or am I just being silly?
Thanks

That gap makes no difference, as long as the chain line is still ok - ie. the right axle length for the crankset.I don't do smileys.

That looks perfect. You won't get dirt trapped in there.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350
