Overshoes over mtb shoes

Although (in London at least) we're being blessed with remarkably mild weather so far, at some point the temperatures are going to drop and I'm going to need some thicker and more waterproof overshoes than my current ones (which are just about OK to keep off showers on the commute).
Because my toesies get very cold, I was thinking about these - http://road.cc/content/review/133534-caratti-deep-winter-waterproof-overshoes - but I'm worried that as I wear MTB shoes and use MTB pedals in winter, that they won't fit right and will quickly tear and get damaged. Which is what happened to my old pair.
These are the shoes I wear for winter: http://www.northwave.com/en/product/_hammer_cx
Has anyone successfully used road overshoes with MTB shoes? Or should I be looking at a specific MTB overshoe?

You need MTB specific ones as the cleat position is slightly different.
I did the fred in my MTB shoes and used the endura boots, they kept my feet warm and dry all day however after one event they did show a lot of wear because of the ammount of walking required.Advocate of disc brakes.0 -
I wear the Planet X neoprene ones over MTB shoes and they're great.
Seem to be pretty tough too and they open fully at the back so you can leave them on the shoes and get them on and off easily

I wear MTB style shoes/cleats, and have never bought MTB specific overshoes. Most overshoes will cope with the slight increase in material around the sole, and the cleat should be pretty much in the same position - in fact it should be less of a problem given the smaller cleat size.
There may be overshoes that are not compatible, but I should hope they would be advertised as such.
I have some similar to these (maybe an older version), which look a lot like the ones you are considering.

They fit fine over my Sidi MTB shoes with plenty of room for the cleat, are thicker and warmer than many other neoprene overshoes, don't have a zip to break, are easy to put on with velcro back and at the current Planet X price of £11.99 are a real bargain. Used them for years.0 -
+3 to the PX Neoprene ones. They also do a flanders windproof version thats nice when its not wet.
(and I think my cleat position is the same MTB and Road ? It should be anyway ?)0
