opened the box on the long awaited frameset.... its a dark matt blue, not black. So now the decisions and selection of components can begin with a purpose !

Wow that looks awesome! Best of look with the component search!0

Beautiful frameset, nothing better than picking the components and watching it all come together. Enjoy.

Nice looking frame. Does that sticker with all the strange logos come off?0

The stickers stay, but now there is a problem, the UCI sticker, as this is apparently a UCI legalised Zero 7so looks likely to be going back for a lighter replacementhttp://veloviewer.com/SigImage.php?a=3370a&r=3&c=5&u=M&g=p&f=abcdefghij&z=a.png

Well, I can guarantee it'll have Campag on it...probably SR, although he has a penchant for EPS now, so watch this space....
I can also guarantee that like all his other Wiliers (and the Bianchi's), it'll be feckin' gorgeous0 -

Hmm thats a shame. Why do frame/bike makes put so much unnecessary stuff on them nowadays, acronyms everywhere you look. I'm sure it will build up into a stunning bike though.0 -
You failed to buy a proper priest's bike...0
-
This is a long build time, have you started yet?0

Do you mean you're sending the frame back because it's a heavier version, specially to be UCI approved?0 -

Pretty sure the 2015 zero 7 is approved, there's isn't an approved and non approved version.0 -

OK, so why would he send it back then, or am I missing something?!0 -
Come on Dom....you started building yet? Need to see it in the Wilier stable.....0

There's no mimimum weight limit on frames, only bikes. A lot easier to stick heavier components on than make a special heavy frame.0 -

partly correct - there are two versions though: as this note from Wilier confirms:
"understood the situation. This frame was made with team construction characteristics. Instead of using the standard sub-800-grams frame we used the team one: you know the professional rider bikes don't matter about the weight because every time they have to add weight to the bike (UCI rule to have the bike at least 6.8 kg) so we decided to put more carbon to the bike, to have a even better stiffness and handling control. We just exchange a standard frame with a team professional one.
If you want the original one we can do it, but you have to wait after xmas holiday. "http://veloviewer.com/SigImage.php?a=3370a&r=3&c=5&u=M&g=p&f=abcdefghij&z=a.png

some components are easy to choose when the shortlist is so limited
but 2015 SR it is

finally all the missing bits are coming together
3T's Aerotundo bars are lovely, and feel almost weightless
then the Prologo saddle - I have tried the SLR so many times, and have two Fizik's but this seems the most comfortable
and finally the offering up of the wheels into the frame

It's going to look super sweet, but am I reading this right that you returned the team frame with more stiffness and better handling to save 80g?Postby team47b » Sun Jun 28, 2015 11:53 am

no - read all the data and decided that the team frame advantages would compensate for the 80g many times over - So i am sticking with it and saving the 80g in the componentshttp://veloviewer.com/SigImage.php?a=3370a&r=3&c=5&u=M&g=p&f=abcdefghij&z=a.png

Hello ILM
Did you use the Wilier Infinitamente for your custom colour scheme?
I'm hoping to pick up a Zero 7 in the new year and will be using it to choose a bespoke design and wondered how you found the service? Any tips or advice?
I'm looking forward to see how your build takes shape. All looking good.
Cheers
Chris0 -
Yes Chris it is a bespoke colour scheme, spec'd with infinamente . Took about two months from order, and you can ask for a super light team version, or a super super light non-teamhttp://veloviewer.com/SigImage.php?a=3370a&r=3&c=5&u=M&g=p&f=abcdefghij&z=a.png
Wiliers: Cento Uno/Superleggera R and Zero 7. Bianchi Infinito CV and Oltre XR20 -
Thanks ILM.
I've decided on the colour scheme but wasn't aware of the different versions of the frame. That's good to know.
Which dealer did you use or did you contact ATB Sales? I picked up my Cento Uno SL from them a few years ago and they were good to deal with. I've also spoken to Cycles UK and they were helpful too.
I like your choice of bars. They will look a treat. Have you had to spec a shorter stem to compensate for the extra reach on the Aerotundo tops?
I'm looking forward to seeing your build progress.
Thanks again.0 -
Chris - see PM on where to buyhttp://veloviewer.com/SigImage.php?a=3370a&r=3&c=5&u=M&g=p&f=abcdefghij&z=a.png

Thanks Ilm but I don't seem to have received your pm. Maybe something to do with me being a newbie. Would you mind sending again as I'd appreciate your advice. Many thanks.0

Why don't you try someone in Jersey or Guernsey and see if they can get it for you: offshore means no VAT: do a quick Google for dealers.
Otherwise R & A cycles in New York always do great deals and are really good to deal with.Postby team47b » Sun Jun 28, 2015 11:53 am

so after along dormant period, whilst reappraising the quantum of brownie points required to introduce 'yet another bike'... its back on - pictures in about a week's timehttp://veloviewer.com/SigImage.php?a=3370a&r=3&c=5&u=M&g=p&f=abcdefghij&z=a.png

ok, 1000 apologies, this has taken an age, but the built was on and off so many times, and the IMF were nearly called in at one point. But it is now finished, but for tweaks and setting up - plus the little things like the alignment of tyre script (name of valve? )
but here it is, and I think I'll enjoy it more than the C60, so will have to go climbing again ..
and the magic number = 6.45
