Brecon Beacons Trail Advice
Hey,
There are 8 of us going up to stay in Sennybridge in a couple of weeks and we are looking for a suitable trail to do on the Saturday (on the Sunday we are visiting BPW). The Saturday I looked at either doing The Gap trail starting from Brecon, or possibly doing the Mynydd Illtud blue trail, also starting from Brecon.
It's November so no doubt the weather will be TERRIBLE but we are kind of expecting this. I've heard that its wise to avoid The Gap if the wind gets up as it is all very exposed up there, but on the other hand I have heard that Mynydd Illtud is a little boring and mainly consists of little side roads and no interesting decents.
I know there are other rides near by and we have bike racks so would any of you recommend doing other rides nearby? Preferably around the 20mile mark as four of us are regular riders but the other four are all new to it so we don't want it to short or too long.
Any advice would be great, thanks guys!

If the forecast isn't good don't do the Gap. The Brecon Beacons are a very small and exposed range so when the weather gets bad it gets apocalyptic with extremely high winds high up. Not just unpleasant but bad enough to turn a minor accident very serious.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

The Gap is 600m odd high and it is very exposed and conditions change very quickly. Unless you have a very good forecast I'd give it a miss at this time of year, especially with inexperienced riders with you0 -
It's surprising how many people have died in the Brecons because of getting caught in bad weather.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

Indeed, and some of the victims include very fit, well trained and well equipped servicemen.0 -
Yep, SAS train up there and not because it's a safe, friendly, easy place.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

Cheers guys, maybe we will avoid The Gap then. can you recommend any others nearby? I did Nant Yr Arian Black last year and it nearly killed me so maybe not that again Anything near to Brecon/Sennybridge that you recommend? Maybe a trail centre instead?0

Probably about an hour out from Cwm?0

Bike Park Wales isn't far. Black Mountain Cycle Centre is closer but is more downhill and freeride oriented although the blue and red trails would be fun on a trail bike.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350
