Good chance Chinese ones will be fakes so be careful. I would never touch Chinese sourced batteries or chargers. I go through at least half a dozen a day.
This guy is straight.

Half a dozen what a day? Chinese?0

I charge a lot every day - always have a few on charge. So I am very careful.
A lot of batteries from China are repackaged ex laptop batteries or worse. There are even fake cheap makes like Ultrafire out there.
A 18650 contains a lot of power. Short one and things get ugly.I don't do smileys.

What are you using them for? Protected batteries are only necessary if you are using them in series. If they are in parallel or single they will discharge until the device being powered shuts down due to low voltage. Assuming the device is designed to run on 18650s it will have built in protection.
For this:

Am I the only person in the world who doesn't know what a 'protected' battery is?All the gear, no idea and loving the smell of jealousy in the morning.

Get button top, as they are fractionally longer and may rattle less, although sizes are a bit random depending on make.
And get protected just to be on the safe side. Chinese torches can also be a bit hit and miss and it's better to be safe, etc...I don't do smileys.

Not UK, but closer than China:
TME Electronics stock a huge range of branded 18650 cells at various quality (some protected, some not).
(Clicky)<--scroll down the page.
I ordered from them last year - no hassles. Delivery to the UK from Poland took 4-5 days IIRC. Carriage would be a bit pricy if you only wanted a couple of cells.0 -
