Yes, in 2017 it will be sunday 2nd july.
Has this been confirmed? Sport Comm still won't tell me anything!
It's always the first Saturday in July. Which will be July 1st. Same day the TdF starts. While I can't know for certain until Sport Communication publish their 2017 calendar, a Sunday running would be a major change to the programme.
  • Indeed, first Saturday July is always the date. However the rumour is this year that it is moving to the first Sunday in July, the 2nd. From a traffic management and security point of view that makes more sense as the roads will probably be quieter on the Sunday. However it will make travel arrangements more of a pain for many and you also have to wonder when the Grimpe of the Alpe will be, Monday morning??

Apparently the business community of St Jean de Maurienne don't like it running on a Saturday as it's basically a day's lost trade - no one drives into the town because of the 8500 cyclists, obviously none of whom are stopping and spending money or even basing themselves there for the event. Bourg and AdH don't care because they get a few days of people spending.

We've booked until Monday just in case they do change it. I did the Ronde Picarde earlier this month and was told they should be able to confirm the date at the end of this month, although their postings on Facebook suggest it won't be till entries open in November.
  • Makes it more difficult for those booking a house or places that normally do Sunday to Sunday rentals.

The Sport Tours International website, and to me in an e-mail, says they're pretty sure it will be the Sunday this year.
It's still TBC at the moment though.

I just went here: http://marmotte.sportcommunication.info/epreuve.php?C=1 and the Marmotte was on 2 July 2016. Where did you find the dates for 2017?
