Just replaced an inner for the front mech with Shimano teflon coated cable and it doesnt feel smooth in operation. Have I bought the wrong cable?

I have never used Sram red but looks like they use 1.1mm cables, whereas shimano is 1.2mm.
Have posted a reply to your workshop post with some links.
  • Gore Ride-on are very good if you can source them.
  • Did you replace the outer cable as well? As others have said some SRAM cables are 1.1mm which may mean that a 1.2mm cable is snug in a 1.1mm outer.

Unless it's a Shimano brand cable (as in a cable from Actual shimano, not a Shimano compatible cable) then it's likely to be 1.1mm. check the package or google it.

If it is 1.1 then I'd guess that your outer cable also needs changing.
