Garmin 1000 and a HRM

I've bought a Garmin 1000, not a bundle just the 1000. Putting aside the fact that Garmin's kit/software is poor average at best, I'm looking to pair a HRM.
Has anyone managed to pair a non Garmin HRM to their Garmin 1000 (or other Garmin model) and have their heart rate displayed on their Garmin device?

anything that conforms to ANT+ and the training heart rate protocol is good.

I have a Wahoo TICKR paired with an edge 510. Works like a charm.
Basically any ant+ hrm will work.0
