Chain rub after chain removal for cleaning
Hi all,
I recently removed my chain from my road bike to degrease it. This is only the second time I've removed a chain to clean it in this manner, the first was on a mountain bike and that was replaced without experiencing this problem.
Ok, having cleaned the chain I placed it back on to my road bike and noticed there was chain rub on the front derailleur. I was sure I hadn't knocked the deraulier during the cleaning process and therefore couldn't understand why, when there was no chain rub before removal, there was when the chain was replaced. All I'd done was remove it, clean it and put it back on in exactly the same place. What I don't understand then is what causes chain rub after the chain is replaced In these circumstances?
Thanks,
Peter

Backwards or inside out.0

Thanks for your reply. If I understand you correctly you're suggesting that the chain rub could have been caused by placing the chain back on backwards or inside out?0

What make and speed is your chain? It could be a directional chain. Have you tried removing it and fitting the other way round?0

No idea what speed and make it is but its the standard chain on the Boardman road team carbon. Haven't tried to fit it the other way around as I took it into local bike shop for it to be sorted. Thanks for your reply though.0

FYI It is a 10 speed KMC X10 non directional chain and should have a removable link, (missing link). So what have the local shop said the problem is?0

Did you do any other cleaning of the bike apart from the chain in the time you last rode it?
If so, what and how0 -

Thanks for your reply. Shop had no idea what had caused it, he just repaired it.
Didn't do any other cleaning to it at all. I think next time I degrease chain I'll leave it on and just use something like the park tool cyclone.0
