Do people generally have insurance for their bikes when they're locked up in the middle of a town or similar? I was under the impression that most don't because of excessive cost and/or excessive/impractical compliance requirements, but is that assumption not right?
Someone in another thread said they insure theirs with, I think it was, Pedal Sure. That's, for example a £1500 Cannondale, about £10 a month. You have to use an approved lock. Do most people do something like this? What other companies/ways are there to insure your bike when it's locked out and about?

I have insurance through British cycling for all of my bikes. Glad I did as my beloved Rose CX bike was nicked a few weeks back, got an email through yesterday to say they were going to pay out which is great. Although it doesn't bring me bike back.Moda Prima 2013

On this page https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/membership/article/bike-insurance they don't mention steal, theft, stolen. Nor any hint of cost. Is that the most applicable page? How much is it for a bike worth how much? Thanks.0 -
If you click one of the links at the bottom (dependant on your membership), you can fill in a value and postcode for a quote.
Policy summary can be found here, theft is one of the first things mentioned.

OK thanks. I'm not a member so I'm not able to get a quote, that way at least. But from that PDF I see they do insure bikes locked up in public. Thanks.0 -

Home isurance is generally fine
What, for out and about bike locked and stolen kind of theft? Or just when the bike is stolen from the home property?0 -

They should cover you for a bike locked outside too, although it might be a limited cover... mine is up to 1 grand... (directline)
Funnily enough the cost of the insurance is the same as buying a specific insurance for bike only... seems a no brainerleft the forum March 20230 -

Yes that does seem much better but I wonder if when it comes to it it really is covered, apart from the 1 grand limitation. Are there things you need to do to comply though? There must be. The Pedal Sure one for example requires you to use a lock of a particular grade/level, which is fair enough.
Is that what most people do? Have their bikes covered when locked in public by their home insurance? Thanks.0 -

House insurance.
Supplement for a named bike over £1k but worldwide cover if it is locked. No mention of lock requirements.
I haven't had to test it though. Luckily. The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.Veronese68 wrote:PB is the most sensible person on here.0
