XT MT8000 or Race Face Aeffect Cinch?

I'm going back to a 1x10 setup and can't decide between the new XT MT8000 and Race Face Aeffect cranks. I've had XT before so know it'll be OK but was fancying something different in the RF Aeffect. Both seem to have good options for rings, probably more for the XT and BB's are OK as they can use the same.

I was just wondering if anyone has any experiences of either cranks, especially the RF one's (or RF in general as I've never used them) to help me out?

no idea how the current RF cranks work but they were notoriously bad for preloadinging the bearings unless the BB shell was exactly to spec as they used a tapered splined crank interface.

  • Good to know. Can't find any info as to whether the interface is tapered or not. Just says it has an EXI interface whatever that is? You have to do it up bloody tight though according to the fitting instructions (61nm).

I've used raceface next SL cranks for the past nine months which use the Cinch system, and aside from a few pressfit bb creaking episodes (i.e. no fault of the crank itself!) they've been perfect. the cinch system is easy to use, super clean looking and the choice of chainrings is excellent. We've had probably a dozen or so new 2016 bikes come in at work with them fitted and I can see why. Don't get me wrong XT's are also very good, never had an issue, but I do love the look and performance of the raceface cranks
  • So no preload issued or tappered interface issues?

RF Cinch has a preload adjuster - simply hand-turn to take up the play and tighten with weenie allen key. Been running some since January and done quite a few thousand miles and DS bearing is now on its way out, but has been creak-free.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
  • The Aeffect doesn't look like it has that system Monty but I'll find out soon as I plumped for that instead of the XT.
  • I've been running next cinch since last October 2014
Love them, had no issues at all.
Do about 20 miles a week in all weathers.
