Wiggle Fallen Leaves MTB - helmet question

Hello all,

I've been looking at doing this ride with my boyfriend in December - looking at the website, the stipulation is for a helmet that conforms to ANSI Z90/4 or SNELL standards, yet most of the MTB helmets on sale seems to be EN1078 certificated (as our own Bell and Fox helmets are). Even the helmets for sales on Wiggle's website don't seem to carry the certification they seem to insist on for the ride.

Has anyone done any of these rides with a standard EN1078 helmet, and was your helmet checked?

Many thanks, Kate

  • Last time I did a Wiggle event the timing chip was stuck to my helmet. The volunteer at the registration took my helmet from me to do this but did not check it over.

I'm sure you will be fine as long as you're wearing a helmet. I have ridden a couple of the Wiggle events and no one has ever checked mine.
  • Thanks - I just received a email from UK Cycling Events stating: "Your helmets will be fine for our events. Sorry for any confusion with the helmet standards".

I don't really understand why they don't include the EN1078 approved lids as being acceptable in their Ts & Cs list, but now I know we are OK to book it.
  • The ansi refers to an American standard, seems very strange they quote this when they should be quoting British (BS) or European (EN) or combined (BS EN) standards.
