Can I top up Shimano brake rather than a full bleed?

Hello

I have Shimano M445 hydraulic brakes on my 2011 Kona Fire mountain.

After replacing the rear pads and rotors, I had the back brake bled by a bike shop. The back brake felt firm, but the pad/rotor combination never produced any bite. After 2 sets of pads and various sanding and cleaning efforts, I have come to the conclusion that Clarks resin pads just aren't very good!

I now have some Shimano pads on there which bite nicely, but I have too much throw on the lever.

Every article I have found only discusses performing a full bleed. Is it possible to just top up the reservoir so that the brake bite point is further from the handlebars? The lever doesn't feel spongy, it just pulls too far.

Thanks

if all you have done is change the pads then adjust the lever throw and go use. the pads will bed in and the lever will reduce its throw as the pistons settle. (lever position may need more adjustment).

    no need to bleed anything.

Use an Allen key and adjust the lever reach?
