Manchester taster session
Took part in my first taster session at the Manchester velodrome on Tuesday with my eldest son, having been bought vouchers as a birthday gift.
For anyone who hasn't tried it, here's my summary:-
- those banked corners are steeper than they look on TV
- but the tyres just keep on gripping, so as long as you are rolling at a decent speed, it's not that terrifying
- riding fixed is harder effort than it looks if you (like me) like to enjoy a freewheel every few minutes
- an hour flies by
- pay the extra fiver and hire their shoes; the cages were fine, but twice I had to wait for the instructor to get me into them, so I missed out on some track time
- spectating for family / friends is free and easy (they can roam anywhere)
- keep putting the effort in around the corners
- great experience, would highly recommend
- get there early, you might get to see the GB team training
