Bit of a problem,I have just purchased a Garmin 500 with a cadence and wheel sensor, cadence is fine and works, but the wheel sensor will not sit between the spokes with the narrow chainstay on this frame,as quite a few frames have narrow chainstays,i was wondering how to get round this

Might not be what you want to hear but I would recommend ditching what you have got and buying the new 'magnetless' (and separate) Garmin speed and cadence sensors. They work seamlessly for me and are a far more elegant solution all round.Cannondale Synapse Carbon Ultegra

Cheers for that I will have a look at those, thinking of turning the arm upward for the time being0 -
Undo the screw on the sensor arm slightly and move the arm up so it is sitting above the mount. Like this:

that is what I thought of doing after I put the first post up,never think quick enough sometimes, bit unsightly but will have to do for now, cheers Glogg0 -

Word of caution. Although only a temp solution, there have been more than one instance of people snapping spokes after the sensor arm hitting them. Just make sure the sensor is seated firmly. I have also been told to keep the adjustment screw loose anough so the arm with spin away if hit. Sounds the opposite should be true but if it was tight it would end up damaging spokes if the sensor moved.0 -

Also, if fitted this way, be careful when removing the wheel - i was riding with a group of friends earlier this summer and one had a puncture. His cadence sensor was fitted with the arm pointing up and in his haste to remove the wheel the rim caught the sensor and ripped the sensor arm clean off.0 -
Try purchasing a magnet which sticks to the pedal axel this allows you to move the garmin sensor further towards the rear wheel. this is what i had to do to mine.0

Hi,
I have a Focus Cayo Evo 6 and had similar problems, but solved them by tilting the unit towards the wheel. So rather than the unit sitting square on top of the frame, it leans towards the wheel at about 20-30 degrees. This means that the sensor arm reaches lower and can sit below the bulge of the frame.
Coupled this with a new flat magnet (got mine for £3 from LBS) rather than the standard circular magnet and it works a treat!

Had the GS10 unit since getting my edge 705 some five years ago and never had a problem with spokes breaking through contact with the sensor arm ( if correctly fitted/adjusted and tightened (, that even after coming off bike and displacing my clavicle, the full unit ended up upside down on the stay with no other damage.0
