Mid/high top shoes

Was told by the doc a little while ago I need to look after my left ankle long story short the tendons are damaged so need some protection. I tried the ankle protection but it was just uncomfortable so im looking at mid or hightops. I ride with flats an so far the only one I can find in a mid to high to has been a Fiveten Impact high, it looks a bit clunky but thats no big issue. I did find the of Northwave Dolomite Evo's but the only issue for me is that cleat cover an grip. Would the cause problems on flats?
Or can anyone else suggest some similar type of shoe, main issue is the Achilles which I damaged years back. Take a size 11 if it helps

I had skate shoes a few years back they only lasted about a season before pretty much falling apart plus they weren't all that stiff. Do you reckon these would be firmer?0

I guess it depends on what you expect. I've always ridden in etnies or the likes. Imo only lasting a season makes up for the price difference between the likes of 510s.
I've never tried 510s so I don't know how they compare in stiffness. It could be worth looking at the bmx range more than the skate range.0 -
I prefer walking shoes /boots to skate shoes.
More heavy/ clunky but better support and stiff soles. Also no clips so are good as a general use winter shoe too.0 -
Include free hoverboard.

I've been using these for a while. Great boots, only issue is the soul isn't quite totally flat. Pretty reasonable weight wise for what is essentially a winter walking boot, lighter than my riding friends 5-10 Impact Highs.

They are tempting Gore-tex uppers is handy and yes fair bit cheaper than the fivetens an less orthopedic looking! Whats the grip like on pedals with them?0 -
I use Nukeproof flats and the grip with this combo is pretty good. I usually ride Etnies BMX trainers and the grip isn't quite as great as with the boots but I think that mostly down to the bottom being much harder on the boots.0

Looking like the Fivetens may be the way to go on this then0 -
I think you'll be disappointed with the 5 10's. Plus they look absolutely gopping. Having tried both I actually prefer the Adidas boots.
How about something like an Etnies High Rise BMX trainer?0 -
To be fair long as they grip an protect my ankle/tendon im not fussed how they look. I went into a skate shop looking like a total tool at lunch in my shirt an tie. Tried a few brands after talking to someone in there he said not many would have a firm sole and almost all the ones I saw there were suede which would be annoyingly absorbent on a trail
Im using a pair of Teva Links at the moment so I dont think the FiveTens would be a let down to be honest.0
