Get your mechanic to replace it every day.
Seriously though, I have tried them all and unless you are fastidious with your cleaning you are lucky to get a year out of any of them.
Fizik usually gets the most shouts but it was no better, or worse, than most in my experience. The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.Veronese68 wrote:PB is the most sensible person on here.0 -
I've gone off white tape, putting black on now.0

That's pretty much it.
I had white Fizik Microtex on one bike and it would last 8-10000 km.
I think a lot of it depends on you and your sweat as well (and whether you wear gloves, whether those gloves have dye that is going to run out of them etc.). I have friends who ride 10 yards on white tape and it looks grubby and I seem to get away with very little cleaning. That said, I have friends who corrode through handlebars in a couple of seasons and I wouldn't recommend white tape for their acid sweat!
White tape does look good, and if you are not a corrosive sweater, then a quick wipe down every so often keeps it looking good. You'll want to make sure you have latex gloves in your saddlepack though, a puncture and dirty hands and that white tape will be ruined!
(or again, get your mechanic to swap out the back wheel for you)0 -
My colnago came with white colnago branded tape. 3500 miles later its pretty grubby and doesnt look nice any more.
I regularly cleaned it with baby wipes etc that were great to start with, but get any chain oil etc on it and forget it.
Now i just ride the bike and dont worry about it.My winter bike is exactly the same as my summer bike,,, but dirty...0 -
Sworks Roubaix in white I can keep clean in the summer no problem. A microfibre towel to grab it with and twist about with a liberal spraying of pledge of all things gets it clean.0

Decathlon do an own brand white tape for a measly £5.99. It is a very good, hard wearing product that cleans easily.0

Attacking it with cream cleaner seems to work reasonably well, but it'll need doing again a few minutes later. I like white bikes, and unfortunately it looks great on them...0

White bar tape does look great but if you are going to use it you need to except that its going to get grubby.
If you are that concerned about keeping it white white then it probably makes more sense to by some of the basic cheap cork tape (which imo is perfectly good) and change it more regularly.0 -
I've tried several brands but the one I have at present is the easiest to keep clean so far - Deda Traforato. Not only is it comfortable and cheaper than most of the other brands but for some reason it doesn't seem to pick up dirt like any of the others I have tried (Cinelli, Fizik, Ritchey). When it does need a clean a microfibre cloth with a bit of muc-off sprayed onto the cloth and then wiped using a 'sawing' motion has it looking as good as new again. I originally bought it because it was about half the price of most of the others and I thought I would just change it if it got too grubby but I've used it all through the summer and it is still in great nick.Bianchi ImpulsoBMC Teammachine SLR02 01Trek Domane AL3“When I see an adult on a bicycle, I do not despair for the future of the human race. “ ~H.G. Clean-looking bar tape or white bar tape: Choose one.
I dislike too much colour-coordination on bicycles, so I have a variety of colours and patters. One a couple of the family bikes we have (for no reason) different colours on left and right handlebar.
All the bar tape on all our family bikes has smudgy paw marks on it from roadside repairs and gearchanges while adjusting the mechs on a stand. Similarly, many of our gloves have dirty palms, so transfer will happen.
I quite understand the necessity of keeping the brakes, transmission, tyres , bearings and wheels in good condition, but I am at a loss why anyone would care about the look of their bar tape.
To me, white bar tape is like a white sofa or a cream carpet. Lots of fun if you're doing a photo-shoot for Hello magazine, but not the most practical solution for everyday life.
I am, as always, right. All and any dissent is from the keyboards of delinquents and scallywags.0 -
Fizik Performance...got the white stuff on my Rourke and it keeps really clean due to its slightly "shiny" finish. Its not porous at all so doesn't attract dirt and grime.

I have this and rate it highly. I use a bit of my bike cleaning spray on it and clean it with a clean piece of rag.Specialized Allez Sport 20130 -

Good isn't it, and it doesn't make bars look like a 1970s tennis racket handle or have logos on it.0 -

I haven't tried that one but I used to use the 2mm Classic on my TT bike. It's good tape and I think it's what my main road bike will be getting next, but on that bike I really feel the need for grip, so I switched to the 2mm 'tacky touch' which is perfect; but it does pick the dirt up.0
