S works Roubaix issue

Hi,
I have just built up a 2006 S works roubaix frame. I removed the specialised mindset headset cups and installed 1 1/8th bearings.
The top bearing sits too far into the head tube which means if i try and put a normal cap on there it has nothing to push against and grinds on the top of the head tube. For now i have used the old mindset bearing top cap however this leaves a about a 3mm gap.
What can do i do to resolve this?
thanks

You use shims under the top cap that are made for the purpose. They used to come with some headsets - but I don't know where to buy them separately.
If it is as much as 3mm you can use an alloy stem spacer - I have done this before, but its a case of trial and error to get the correct height.
Is it a campag type integrated headset that you replaced the mindset with?
If I remember correctly, that is what I used on my s-works tri-cross frames.0
