Not sure what the problem is but....
For 3 X you go over the first and second spokes and then under the third.
For 2X you go over the first spoke and then under the second.0 -

How tight have you done the other spokes, just a twist or two to hold them will do until your fully laced, that should loosen the wheel enough to do the rest. Also if you have bought spokes that are just slightly too short, you can often get away with getting some longer nipples.0 -
nah spokes are right length. i gave up. will have another look tomorrow night after work and try loosening all the spokes off just to get the others connected upBMC TM01 - FCN 0

Because 2 cross are closer to radial, they are less tolerant of doing the nipple up too far during the initial lacing, radial is, of course, even worse!Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0

Knowing how to lace a bicycle wheel 36 spokes can be a big help. The first thing to do is put the hub with 36 holes in the center and the bike’s rim around it. Place the nipple on the spoke. This will lock it on the rim. The nipple is good to go after you successfully turned it after five size rotations, fit the lead spoke into the rim of the first hole. Then, screw in a nipple using a screwdriver onto the spoke’s end where it comes out of the bike’s rim. You have to fit the primary trailing spoke on the right of the bike wheel, the spoke should pass on the inside of two primary spokes.
