Gonna need more information than that. What do you want to do with it, what do you mean by 'VR'? Not sure what "laptop it ipad" means.0 -

Tacx Bushido.
Specifically Tacx Bushido Smart - which is the one I have as I had a very similar budget. That would be my recommendation but didn't want to jump straight to that as OP's requirements are clear as mud.0 -
Just looking to do some winter training
VR would be good to help with the boredom
Training will not be massively structured
More just keeping my fitness levels up.
Use a Garmin and strava and would like to connect to them
Thanks for the suggestions
Vortex smart vs the bushido ?
Main differences ?0 -

Again depends what you mean by VR. Tacx do a VR product but it's about £100. Or there is the likes of Zwift which is £8 per month - which IMO is pretty much ideal for an unstructured VR environment.
Vortex vs Bushido. ; The Bushido is capable of realistically simulating higher gradients, offers a higher resistance and has a higher 'intertial mass', meaning the cycling experience is a bit more realistic. It's also powered by your pedalling so doesn't need plugging in like the Vortex does.0 -
when you say VR IS £100 what do you mean?
Does the vortex or bushido not include VR?
I'm just looking for a turbo that I can connect to an iPad or laptop and can ride different routes on the screen
Thanks again0 -

They have a software package which includes ride simulations.

Again can you explain what you mean, because I have my understanding of what VR is but I suspect that might be different from yours.0 -
VR to me means what you are doing on a turbo is replaced onto a screen. I.e I load up a route on the software. Enter my details and then ride that course on the turbo?0

There's quite a few options for software which can do that. Tacx have their own sofware suite. There's also Kinomap, BKool, Zwift - and I'm sure there are more.
But the previously recommended Tacx Vortex and Bushido would work with all of them.0 -
Cheers for the advice
Prob go for the vortex. Decent price on wiggle £2450 -
Bkool pro.
Have a look at cyclechat dedicated forum. Resistance goes beyond 7% so great if like riding "up" hills and mountains. Dc Rainmaker found power ratings pretty darned accurate. 1000,s of routes and an active community of leagues etc. I also use it on Zwift. Regular deals via their uk Facebook page. It's certainly a viable alternative to options already recommended.0 -
Bkool looks good
Recommend a place to buy it?
Any difference between 2015 and 2016 model?0 -
Have a look at the uk bkool Facebook page where they have deals. I am sure latest was years bkool premier membership and a training mat thrown in.
I am not in a position to say better than another trainer but I like fact resistance is more than the 7% of most other trainers and there is an active community. Whatever you choose be prepared to endure some pain!0 -

I would go for a trainer with ANT+ FE-C control. So that the PC/tablet etc can send resistance commands back to the trainer. There are other ways to do this, but FE-C is becoming the standard and there are different apps that talk the same protocol. That way, you don't get trapped into using a particular piece of software for a particular trainer.
The best budget ones seem to be the Tacx Smart Vortex and Bushido. And the Bkool Classic and Pro.0 -
The Bkool Pro is very good - especially now that it can work with trainer road and zwift. I got mine direct from Bkool using the instalment payments method.
The only thing I would mention is the Bkool relies on your body weight to push the tyre onto the roller, so you can't do any out of the saddle efforts - may be a deal breaker depending on your riding style, or what training you intend doing with it.0 -
Quick comparison between the Tacx trainers, all models are smart ANT+FE/C
First number is max realistic slope, second is simulated inertial mass, third is max 10 sec sprint power
Vortex 7% 12kg 950W
Bushido 15% 60kg 1400W
Genius 20% 125kg 1500W
Neo 25% 125kg 2200W0 -
As I can't sprint anyway near 950w that's an easy decisionhttp://veloviewer.com/SigImage.php?a=3370a&r=3&c=5&u=M&g=p&f=abcdefghij&z=a.png

Wiggle as the Bushido Smart for £350 now, which is a good price especially as I paid £100 more than that less than a month ago0
-
Bkool Pro is ANT+ FEC now, so it can be used with Zwift etc as well. Can be price matched at Wiggle for £330.0
