Been using Storm Control for about 6 weeks now, mainly Essex green lanes/footpaths, proper muddy, slimy and slippy. Came to the conclusion that mud is just a PITA!! That said, tyres seem OK, grippy on wet grass and angled surfaces which is what I wanted them for as I ride a lot of footpaths, good in the dryer conditions (but still muddy if you get me), OK on the limited rocks that I've ridden not great on roots but what tyres are on wet, mud covered roots?? Kept me riding through pretty much everything so far which is what I wanted.

Very suspect first post and thread resurrection....
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.

It's always a trade-offs with tires. Don't go to the extremes until your requirements are extreme. Tall knobs, soft rubber and reduced width might be the secret sauce for really muddy trails, but it's going to slow you down everywhere else and don't expect them to last long.

Here are some hardcore mud tires:
SPECIALIZED Storm (XC / All Mountain)
MICHELIN Wild Mud (All Mountain / Enduro)
MAXXIS Beaver (XC / All Mountain)
SCHWALBE Magic Mary (Enduro / DH)
SCHWALBE Dirty Dan (XC / All Mountain / Enduro / DH)
    WTB Warden (Enduro / DH)
    SPECIALIZED Hillbilly (Enduro / DH)
    MAXXIS Shorty (Enduro / DH)
Continental Mud King (XC / All Mountain / Enduro / DH)

But if mud traction is not your only requirement, then you should take something more balanced.
I always play around with https://www.dirtshed.com/index.html#/gear/tires/ or http://www.bitingtires.com/tire-database to see what tires might fit me.

    Hope this helps,

Well I've just got a Nobby Nic 2.35 up front and a Michelin Wild Grip R for the back. I liove in the Thetford forest which is sandy and muddy but no hills to speak of. I've used Wild Grip R for a couple of years and quite like it.
...take your pickelf on your holibobs.... :D
