Hi Guys,
First time posting, long time lurker
I have a 2010 Giant Anthem X4 18" Frame that I am looking to add a few upgrades to, the first of these is a dropper however I am unsure what exact size I need (Is it 30.9 ? ) also I think the reverb is probably the best to look at?
Any advice at all on this and any other possible upgrades would be much apprecaited

30.9, yes.
Giant's own Contact is worth looking at as well.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0 -
Whatever model you go for will need external cable routing. 30.9mm is correct.
The best mod I made to my old Anthem (2011 X4 26") was the Rockshox Reba 120mm fork. It made the bike more fun as a trail bike with no noticeable effect to climbing ability.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
After more than 5,000 miles use and many upgrades after wearing bits out, my 2010 Anthem is a lot different than it was. See my sig for a link. A Reverb is a great addition, and I offset the additional weight with some better wheels. Most of my Deore stuff is now XT - if I were doing it all again I would do the shifters first as they make the most noticeable difference, and you need windowless shifters to get your Reverb remote in a sensible position. I'd also say short stem wide bars is a big plus: but I know not everyone agrees. The Anthem is still one of the best bikes I have ever ridden at any price point.Vitus Sentier VR+ (2018) GT Grade AL 105 (2016)

Perfect guys thanks for the responses, yeah my bike is still set up with the original 3 x 9 gears which is not ideal and I was thinking about either 2 x 10 or a single speed on the front. In terms of the seat post is the Giant one is good enough I might just plump for that although surely 75 travel is a bit on the low side? Does anyone have any ideas on what a good set of wheels would be to start of my upgrade I think it will be in this order:
1. Wheels/ Gearing
2. Forks and Dropper0 -
The Giant Dropper is 100mm. Can be routed internally or externally. I have the same bike as Oxoman and would concur r.e. the dropper post. It works really well but the single bolt seat adjust takes a little getting used to and the switch could be slightly better.
Depending on what forks you have got, I think I would be tempted to do the dropper and 120mm forks first.
R.e. The gears you could, for now, remove the biggest ring and adjust the front derailleur limit screw to just give two rings at the front.0 -
Hi yeah it is still the standard Fox 32 F100RL that is on the front so 100mm of travel only, I think the gears are the number one just now.
I agree also that the X4 has been and excellent bike and comparable to some of my mates more expensive set-ups with it being an excellent base for my riding level.0 -
If you go single ring then the front mech cable guides are useful for the seat post hose.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

Ah well just a quick update I saw a 2012 X0 for sale and in a moment of impulse bought and sold my X4 so as the X0 is so light I am in two minds now as to proceed with a dropper at all.....0
