Hi there, I never thought I'd be posting about I'm compact however….
I'm looking to buy a swim 10 speed come back for my road bike. Does anybody know if I bought the 50x34 I made at a later date to put it as a 36x52? I currently have a 53x39 Red on the bike.
Thanks.

Before you do anything I'd suggest you switch of the predictive text on the device you used to post your query.
Now to the matter in hand. If you switch from a 53/39 to a 50/34 the only thing you might need to do is check the length of your chain, if you plan to use your existing chain. If you're buying a new chain then use this link to calculate the correct length to fit
http://www.machinehead-software.co.uk/bike/chain_length/chainlengthcalc.html
If you find the 50/34 is not suitable then I think you could swap it for a 52/36 without needing to do anything0 -
Oops, whilst I'm not a triathlete, mabe in my subconscious?
Thanks for the advice. Machine head is a great one I've used it for years. It did make sense that I could change it it is more of a problem when you have 130 BCD.
I've been trying to avoid it for ages so is a bit depressing when you have a bike that you have to downgrade rather than upgrade. Especially when you are downgrading for lack of fitness and time having a toddler as this affect on us.http://twitter.com/mgalex

Another option to consider is to fit a wider range cassette with your existing 53/39 chainset. 10-speed Shimano cassettes will be compatible with your SRAM set-up so you could opt for a 12-30 Tiagra cassette if you're rear mech will handle it.
At the extreme you could even consider a 10-speed 11-32 cassette (Shimano SLX HG81-10)

but there you would almost certainly have to fit a medium/long cage rear mech
I have a couple of redundant 12-30 Tiagra cassettes lying around only about 300 miles on each (have migrated to 11-speed). I'm happy to send you one for the cost of postage if you are interested in giving that option a go. PM me if you are interested0
